The Secret of the Threshold and the Call to Eternity
Miqaat...
It is not where time stops,
But where intention pauses.
It is not where the journey begins,
But where you step beyond yourself.
From the outside, it appears as a boundary;
From within, it is a surrender of existence.
The first station where the body turns toward the Qibla,
And the heart turns toward eternity.
Miqaat is not just a place; it is a state of transformation.
Not merely a point,
But a white intention offered to Allah by what remains after the “self.”
In Sufism, Miqaat resembles the threshold of the spiritual journey (Seyr-u Süluk).
It is the moment when the seeker sheds the ego,
Lays down the burden of the world,
And takes the first step toward the land of truth to illuminate inner darkness.
Like the Ihram...
There is no color there, no status…
No name, no shape…
Only a cloak of nothingness is worn.
The human strips off the world
And enters like a pure body into the afterlife.
Miqaat is an inner farewell ceremony.
The servant who reaches it is not mindful of what they leave behind,
But to Whom they are walking.
And in that moment, a cry rises in the heart:
“Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk!”
This call is not uttered with the tongue alone,
But is a prayer expressed through the being itself.
It is like a prostration,
Where every corner of the heart opens,
Every attachment gives way to Allah,
And the self lays prostrate:
“Miqaat.”
Standing at Miqaat: The State of Resetting
At that point, the world is behind you,
Yet its echoes remain in your ears.
The ego whispers one last time:
“Turn back...”
But the heart replies:
“I am now going to my Lord.”
Ihram is not just a garment.
It is a vow worn by the heart,
A testimony draped by the soul.
You no longer have any identity —
Except one:
Abdullah – Servant of Allah.
And Miqaat is where this servanthood is reborn.
Every Soul Has Its Miqaat
In life too, there are miqaats:
-
A disaster...
-
A farewell...
-
A moment of prostration...
-
An awakening...
Each brings you to the edge of a threshold,
And there, something is asked of you:
Let go…
Let go so you may cross,
So you may carry truth,
So Allah may draw you near.
Final Word
Miqaat is not merely a geographical location for donning Ihram;
It is a spiritual gate through which the soul passes when returning to its Lord.
Every servant holds a hidden Miqaat within.
And every Hajj and Umrah journey is the realization of this inner Miqaat.
As the body walks to Mecca,
The heart sets its intention for the Highest Throne (Arsh al-Ala).
And the place where that intention begins is:
MIQAAT.
