Currency and Payment Tips in Morocco

Morocco’s currency is the dirham (MAD), and most daily transactions in Morocco are conducted using this currency. You can easily exchange your foreign currency for Moroccan dirhams at currency exchange offices or banks. Visitors from Turkey can exchange their money at currency exchange offices throughout the country.
Credit card usage is common in Morocco, especially in larger businesses and hotels. However, in smaller shops and markets, it is better to have cash on hand. During your Morocco trip, it’s advisable to carry small amounts of cash for shopping. Credit card payments are also accepted in many hotels and large shopping centers.
Most restaurants and hotels accept the Moroccan dirham (MAD), but in some tourist areas and large hotels, euros may also be accepted. However, it’s always better to pay in the local currency during your Morocco tour.
ATMs are widely available in Morocco, and you’ll find them on almost every street in major cities. You can easily withdraw Moroccan dirhams at ATMs. However, be mindful that some banks may charge a transaction fee.
